A Taste of the Asian Side: Ferry & Food Tour of Kadıköy

You have a few days in Istanbul, or you are in town on a cruise; you have seen Sultanahmet and now want to live the city like a local. We meet at Eminönü or Kabataş and board the ferry, crossing from Europe to Asia as your guide tells the story of the city.

In Kadıköy we start with börek and tea to warm up the appetite. Then we wander the market’s fishmongers to taste lakerda, çiroz and other seafood, sip pickle juice at a pickle shop in business since 1935, and try rock candy and Turkish delight at a confectioner open since 1807. Lunch is at Çiya, one of the best-known tables of Anatolian cooking.

We finish with dessert at the historic Baylan patisserie and take the ferry back to Europe.

On request, in English or Turkish, for up to 10 guests; 10:00–15:00, starting and ending on the European side. Your guide is Osman Altay or one of our licensed guides. €150 per person (minimum 2; €250 for a single traveller). Ferry tickets and all tastings except lunch at Çiya are included; lunch at Çiya is paid by guests. Children pay the full price. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
