Industrial Heritage of the Golden Horn by Ferry
See the Golden Horn from the water, with a guide. We meet at Karaköy pier and board the city ferry up the Golden Horn, passing the line of the Byzantine chain, the imperial shipyard founded by Mehmed II in 1455, the site of Leonardo da Vinci’s unbuilt bridge, the yard where an early submarine was assembled, the Cibali tobacco factory and the Aynalıkavak Pavilion.
At Hasköy we visit the Rahmi M. Koç Museum, set in an 18th-century Ottoman anchor foundry and a 19th-century ferry company dockyard: a sultan’s railway carriage, trams, a submarine, a Bosphorus ferry and much more. The next ferry takes us past the old Sütlüce slaughterhouse, now a congress centre, to Eyüp, where we finish at Feshane, the 19th-century fez factory reborn as an art venue.
Private tour on request, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30–14:30, in English or Turkish: €250 per group of up to 30 guests. Children up to 12 free. Ferry and museum tickets are paid by guests; Feshane is free. Your guide is Osman Altay or one of our licensed guides. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. After the tour you can ride the ferry back or continue to Eyüp or Balat.
