A Day in Bursa: History, Culture, Nature and Flavours in the First Ottoman Capital

A day in the city where an empire was born. We leave Istanbul in the morning and start with breakfast in Cumalıkızık, a UNESCO-listed village whose cobbled lanes keep the fabric of early Ottoman rural life.

In Bursa we see the tiles of the masters of Tabriz in the Green Mosque and Green Tomb of Mehmed I, the complex of the Bukharan dervish Emir Sultan, and the tombs of Osman and Orhan Gazi at Tophane. Lunch is in the home town of the İskender kebab.

In the afternoon we visit the twenty-domed Grand Mosque with its centuries of calligraphy, Koza Han, the heart of the silk trade, and the bazaar, with free time for candied chestnuts and Bursa towels before returning to Istanbul.
