The other five islands are named Sedef Island, Yassıada, Sivriada, Kaşık Island, and Tavşan Island.
Travel Programme
ROUTE
- We start our tour by picking up our bicycles, helmets, and necessary equipment from Reviva Tourism’s office in Galata. While in Galata, we take a photo next to the Galata Tower before beginning our tour.
- The Islands are a great option for day trips from Istanbul’s city center. Easy access to the Islands by ferry, along with the refreshing atmosphere and the beauty of the houses and streets on the Islands, makes them an excellent destination. Exploring the calm streets, beaches, roads, hills, and wooded areas on the Islands by bicycle serves both as daily transportation for the island residents and a delightful activity for visitors. There are no motor vehicles allowed on the islands, so besides bicycles, there aren’t many options for getting around!
- We ride our bicycles to Kabataş and catch the ferry to Büyükada. During the ferry ride, we chat with our guide over tea or coffee while enjoying the views of Istanbul.
- Upon arrival on Büyükada, we first explore the streets near the pier. Then, with strong motivation, we pedal up the hilly roads of the island to reach Luna Park Square. From there, we cycle toward the Rum Orphanage, the largest wooden building in Europe. After learning about the history of this neglected building due to bureaucratic and political reasons, we continue to Aya Yorgi Church.
- Aya Yorgi Church holds a special place for both Muslim and Christian communities. It particularly attracts visitors on April 23rd and September 24th. After learning about the history and local beliefs associated with the church from our guide and enjoying the fantastic view from the church’s location, we descend back towards the coast, taking a different beautiful tree-lined path.
- Completing our tour around the island, we return to the pier. While taking a ferry ride back to the mainland, enjoying tea and simit (a type of bread), or trying the island’s ice cream and lokma (a sweet pastry) can be a great way to relax after a day of cycling.
- Upon arriving at Karaköy, we return our bicycles and bid farewell, looking forward to meeting again on the next tour.
