Istanbul is known as the City on the Seven Hills (Turkish: Yedi tepeli şehir). This denomination is a heritage from Byzantine Constantinople where the city model of Rome were inherited and the Istanbul were also built on seven hills at the Byzantine period as being the East Rome.

The seven hills, all located in the area within the city walls and each hill was surmounted by monumental religious buildings (churches under the Byzantines, imperial mosques under the Ottomans).

  • III – At the third hill, there are Istanbul University, the Bayezid II Mosque to the south and the Süleymaniye Mosque to the north.

PRINCES’ ISLANDS BIKE TOUR
5-6 HOURS - EUR 50 PER PERSON

Highlights & Itinerary

  • We take our bikes, helmets and other necessary equipment from the Reviva Tourism office in Galata. While we are in Galata, we take a photo next to the Galata tower and start our tour.
  • Islands are one of the good options for day trips from Istanbul city center. In addition to the ease and comfort of reaching the Islands by ferry, the beauty of the magnificent houses and streets in the Islands contributes greatly to this. With its quiet streets, beaches, roads, “hills” and wooded areas, cycling around the Islands offers both a choice to meet the daily transportation needs of those living in the Islands and an enjoyable activity for those who come to visit the Islands. Motor vehicles are not allowed on the islands, so we don’t have much of a choice but bicycle anyway J
  • We drive up to Kabataş with our bikes and catch the Büyükada ferry. During our cruise on the ferry, we chat about Istanbul with our guide, accompanied by tea and coffee.
  • When we arrive at Büyükada, we first tour the island streets close to the pier. Then we arrive at the Amusement (Lunapark) Park Square on the inclined roads of the island with strong motivations. After arriving at the square, we first pedal towards the Greek Orphanage, the largest wooden building in Europe. After explanation of our guide about the story of this building, which has been neglected for years due to bureaucratic and political reasons, we will go ahead on our way to the Church of Saint George (Aya Yorgi in Turkish).
  • Aya Yorgi church has a special place for all Muslim and Christian communities. Especially on April 23 and September 24, Aya Yorgi is flooded with visitors. After listening to the past of the church and the beliefs associated with the cliché and the region by our guide and watching the wonderful landscape from the hill where the church is located, we go down to the seashore again, but this time on another beautiful tree-lined road.
  • We finish our tour around the island and arrive at the pier. It is best to relieve the tiredness of the day by having tea and simit on the ferry, but it can also be a good choice to taste the island’s ice creams or “lokma” desserts before departure.
  • After arriving in Karaköy, we deliver our bikes and say goodbye with a hope of meeting again at another tour.
